Laura, the owner and founder of Barre Youngstown, has a strong dance background having started training at the age of 4 at Linda Diamond’s Academy of Dance and continuing on at Jamie’s Dance Force. After teaching ballet, tap and jazz at Jamie’s Dance Force for about 12 years, she danced professionally in various musical theater venues, such as Tokyo Disneyland. After being overseas for almost a year, she moved to New York City to pursue more professional training. Laura next landed an ensemble dancer contract with the Radio City Rockette Christmas Spectacular Show for two seasons in Chicago and Nashville. Throughout this time, Laura became certified in Mat Pilates through the Kane School of Core Integration in New York City.
After graduating from Youngstown State University with a Bachelor’s of Science in Food and Nutrition and completing her internship, Laura passed her registration examination and became a Licensed and Registered Dietitian and Nutritionist in Ohio and PA. Laura managed a school-age nutrition education program in the New Castle school system for over 5 years, and then moved on to be a Nutrition Coach for adults through Wellpoint, Inc. She currently works with bootybarre® clients and the general population to help clients reach their best ‘self’ yet!
Combining her passion for fitness, dance and wellness, Laura became certified through bootybarre®. This innovative barre training program is not only the most unique in the industry, but gaining worldwide recognition on all fronts for being the best in the business. Laura is proud to be a certified bootybarre® instructor in the classes of Plus, Flex and Flow, bootybarre® SCULPT, and bbarreless®. She has also attended workshops on pre/post natal barre and Platnium barre, for the aging client. Laura is AFAA certified, as a group fitness intructor and most recently has been asked to be a Master Trainer with the bootybarre® program.

Cassie started dancing at the age of 3 at Zahnow Dance where she studied Cecchetti ballet, tap, jazz and contemporary. She continued her dance career with ballet director Richard Dickinson at Great Lakes Festival Ballet. Cassie danced and performed for Great Lakes while attending Mount Union College. After college, she taught dance at Studio L. Her love for dance and fitness lead her to bootybarre®. In March 2014, Cassie became a certified bootybarre® instructor and hasn’t turned back since. Her classes are “intense” yet so rewarding. Cassie and her husband Bill, reside in Canfield with their three children, Matthew, Anna and Noah.

Erica’s passion for wellness and fitness started at an early age. She graduated from the University of Akron in 1999 with a degree in Dietetics and Nutrition. Out of college, she worked for Jenny Craig in Hudson, Ohio for two years before coming Shepherd of the Valley’s Wellness Director. While there, she worked with residents and employees to achieve all of their health and fitness goals. After the birth of her daughter, she decided to stay home and raise, what would become, a family of three children. Now that all three are school aged, she’s excited to return to the work force! She spent this past year substitute teaching at St. Charles in Boardman, and completed her bootybarre course training in Pittsburgh, PA in 2015. When she’s not busy being a dance/soccer mom, she enjoys running and has proudly completed three marathons, with New York City’s marathon this past year. She has also been practicing yoga for as long as she can remember primarily with Studio Oxygen in Canfield. Erica added bootybarre® classes with Laura to her workout routine two years ago, and fell in love with the whole body workout. She loves that it’s based in dance, pilates, yoga, and is just fun! Erica can’t wait to share all of her new bootybarre® knowledge with you and is so thankful for this opportunity to be teaching!

Kim started dancing at the age of 5 at Linda Diamond’s Academy of Dance where she competitively on a national team and studied ballet, tap, jazz and hip-hop. She also was a cheerleader for many years at Fitch High School. After graduation, she continued her dance career with Jamie’s Dance Force, while studying to be a Pre-K-Grade 3 teacher at Youngstown State University. She graduated in 2002 Magna Cum Laude and then later went on to get her Master’s degree in curriculum from Marygrove College. Kim has always had a love for dance and fitness, which lead her to bootybarre®. Kim teaches 2nd grade at Austintown Elementary School. Kim and her husband Matt, live in Austintown with their two children, Casey who is 7 and Madelyn, who is 5.

Missy started off with a love of dance from a young age. She trained in tap, jazz and ballet at Kathie’s Dance and Gym for over 10 years. Missy was also a cheerleader through high school and continued her love of fitness well into college. She studied Sociology with a minor in Psychology and Pop Culture at Bowling Green State University. She currently works as a social worker while also raising her three children, Jillian, Audrey and JT with husband Jim in Boardman. Missy’s thrilled to be part of the Barre Youngstown team having started with Laura over 2 years ago when it was first getting started. After seeing how amazing she felt doing these classes through her whole pregnancy and bouncing right back just weeks after, Missy was hooked! She loves helping others experience what she has with this amazing program!

Marie has a passion for dance and fitness so she was thrilled when she discovered the bootybarre® through the suggestion of a friend. It was love at first plie. Attending bootybarre® classes is her time to better herself so she can then be a better mom, wife and teacher. She became so passionate about the program and is very excited to start this new journey of being a bootybarre® instructor. Marie attended Youngstown State University where she obtained at bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education. She now teaches 3rd grade at Hilltop Elementary School. She implements fitness into her class as often as possible. Marie resides in Youngstown with her husband, Jared and two boys, Gavin and Logan.

Laura grew up training and competing in all styles of dance for Jamie’s Dance Force. She has since gone on to dance professionally in both the cruise ship and theme park industries. Performing for Stiletto Entertainment and Holland America Lines, Laura has been able to dance all around the world including Norway, Iceland, the Mediterranean, and the Caribbean. She most recently finished a contract performing at Hersheypark in RWS and Associate’s Dance, Dance, Dance: America. Also a fitness lover, Laura has found bootybarre® to be the perfect workout when she is not on the stage. She began her bootybarre® journey when Barre Youngstown first opened its doors and has since been inspired to expand her knowledge of the method and earn her certification. Laura is excited to share her love of bootybarre® with all!

Jennifer started dancing at the age of 4 at Megert’s Dance Studio. After graduating high school, she continued dancing at Youngstown State University where she was a member of the dance team and dance ensemble, From YSU, Jennifer has earned a Bachelor of Arts in Theater Studies and a Master of Science in Education. She currently works at YSU as a financial aid counselor. Realizing how much she missed dance, and the shape she was in when she was dancing, she started searching for classes that incorporated the elements of dance she missed so much. Her search proved to be successful and instead of shopping on Black Friday in 2014, she took her first bootybarre® class. Needless to say, she has been hooked ever since and is so excited to have the opportunity to teach barre to others!

Fitness and exercise has always been a part of Marissa’s life beginning at an early age. Marissa started dancing when she was five years old. She continued to take tap and jazz for seven years at the Boardman Dance Institute. Marissa has been an athlete all of her life as she played several sports growing up, but her main focus that she concentrated on in high school was softball. Marissa was just recently inducted into the 2016 Boardman High School’s Hall of Fame class for softball. Fitness is a major component of any competitive softball program, so Marissa was introduced to many aspects of the fitness industry throughout her athletic career. Conditioning, which often consisted of running, spinning, lifting, Pilates, and plyometrics were often incorporated into both Marissa’s high school and college careers. Thus, she has had many experiences in various areas of exercise. Marissa received an athletic scholarship to play softball at Mercyhurst College. After earning her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology in 2005, Marissa continued her studies at Kent State University for graduate school. She received her Masters of Education degree in 2007 and her Educational Specialist degree in School Psychology in 2009. She is currently a licensed school psychologist in the Warren City School district, and she and her husband, Matt reside in Boardman with their three daughters, Emma, Mia, and Tessa. Marissa has been taking bootybarre® classes since 2013 when Laura first began teaching this one of a kind barre program. She fell in love with this workout back then and still continues to love it to this day. She has been able to see her body quickly bounce back after two pregnancies and was even able to continue to take bootybarre® classes all the way up to a few days before she delivered her third daughter. She is very excited to begin this new journey as an instructor and to join the Barre Youngstown team! She cannot wait to share her love for bootybarre® with everyone!
Marissa’s classes in 3 words: motivating, challenging, sweaty
Katie Critell is a District Wide Support Specialist for Liberty Local Schools. After trying every fad workout and diet out there, she began taking bootybarre® at Barre Youngstown in January 2015, and is down a total of 40lbs and 47 inches to date. She also was the runner-up of Tracey Mallet’s first ever 60 Day bootybarre® BURN Program which was a world wide competitive program focusing on health and fitness. Besides her love for the barre, Katie has 2 nieces and 2 dogs that keep her busy!
Doretta Hegg is the Coordinator for the YMCA Comprehensive Pilates Program. She holds a MA in Physical Education and Dance and a BSc in Speech and Theatre. RYT 200 through Yoga Alliance.
As a Master Pilates Practitioner, she is comprehensively certified in Pilates Mat and all Apparatus. Doretta is a Faculty member with Balanced Body University and a trainer for their Anatomy in 3D courses. She has created the Stroke Recovery Pilates Program recently featured in Pilates Style Magazine. Seeing the need for other types of programs for various diseases, she also established the only comprehensive Breast Cancer Rehabilitation program in the Mahoning area. Her certifications are many in various exercise forms such as a certified Personal Trainer, Yoga, Silver Sneakers, PiYo, Turbokick and Group Exercise.
In addition to dancing professionally, acting and commercial work she has choreographed for musical theatre and taught dance at several distinguished universities in the US and abroad.
A native of Boardman, Ohio, Cristina is passionate about her family, our community, fitness and health. She graduated with High Distinction from Ohio Northern University with a Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Pharmacy degree in 2000. Cristina is active in the Mahoning County Medical Society Alliance and recently, won the title Mrs. Poland. She collaborated with My Babies First and Akron Children’s of the Mahoning Valley to educate parents on safe sleep in an effort to combat infant mortality rates in Mahoning County. After cheering varsity at Ohio Northern and years of recreational dance, Cristina has become obsessed with barre! She has recently completed her bootybarre primary certification, as well as the bootybarre bounce course with Laura at Barre Youngstown. Cristina also completed the Bohdi Pilates training through Studio Oxygen. She currently resides in Poland, Ohio with her husband, Dr. Mark Memo, an urologist, and her two precious children, Gabriella and Rocco.
